What We Do
The UCL Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education promotes high quality climate change and sustainability education for all school-aged children.
We do this through:
- A wide-ranging portfolio of national and international research and consultancy, including surveys of teachers and young people, case studies and school-based collaborations.
- A programme of free professional development for all teachers called Teaching for Sustainable Futures which is tailored by subject and age phase and supports a whole-curriculum response to the climate and nature crises.
- Engagement with UK education policy and intergovernmental policy through the Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE) workstream of the UNFCCC.
What do we mean by climate change and sustainability education?
We define climate change and sustainability education in broad environmental and social terms. We recognise that there are many interconnected consequences of human impacts on our planet which include climate change and threats to biodiversity. Climate change and sustainability education includes these broad environmental dimensions as well as social dimensions such as climate and environmental justice and the nature of human behaviour.
