Meet The Team
I am the Executive Director of the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education. Within the Centre, I lead a research group with internationally significant expertise in climate change and sustainability education (CCSE), with a primary focus on developing high-quality teacher education practices.
I began my career working in secondary schools and from there moved into HE, working mainly in teacher and history education. I co-founded CCCSE in 2022 and have since led our Teaching for Sustainable Futures programme of teacher professional development in collaboration with colleagues across UCL.
My career in the environmental and climate change sector has spanned roles in government, non-government and education settings. My research explores environmental education policy and practice. As Senior Research Fellow, I undertake research and impact-generating activities that aim to support teachers incorporate climate change and sustainability into their practice.
I will lead on the development of the first secondary science TSF online module and will be researching the TSF programme with Dr Greer. I am working with colleagues on research projects in the UK and Qatar and have several relevant international collaborations with colleagues in Chile, China and Luxembourg.
I studied History and Anthropology before coming to the UK to get a MA in Public Archaeology, relating specialist subject knowledge to the general public. I worked at several UK National Museums before coming to work in Initial Teacher Education at UCL. I now work as the Projects and Operations Manager for the CCCSE, overseeing the budget, events and website for the Centre. I also advise on strategy, communications and content for the Centre.
I am a history educator, currently working as course leader for the History PGCE at the IoE. As Deputy Programme Lead at the Centre for Climate and Nature Education, I work with colleagues to produce the Teaching for Sustainable Futures training modules and to develop the Pioneer Schools Programme.
My research focuses on young people’s attitudes towards education and the natural environment as avenues towards enhancing inclusion and mitigating inequalities. I have lead research and questionnaire design, data collection, quantitative analysis, and reporting for over 10 years, across primary schools, secondary schools, universities and at the centre.
I am a postdoctoral fellow at UCL CCCSE, working on national youth climate survey data and the CLASS project. I am a Former secondary geography teacher with research spanning student wellbeing, climate change and sustainability education, and cross-curricular pedagogies. I was shortlisted for UCL Provost’s Education Award in Sustainability (2023).

I am a Geography educator leading the Centre’s Secondary Geography modules for teachers. I also work with colleagues in History and English to develop teacher collaborations across subjects in schools. I contribute to the Centre’s research and publications, focusing on teachers' agency to teach for sustainable futures.
I am a primary geography teacher educator and work on the primary PGCE programme as deputy programme lead. I gave been responsible for the primary geography professional modules for Teaching for Sustainable Futures and have worked with number of schools, school colleagues and teacher educators to develop them.
I am an Associate Fellow at the CCCSE and lead on the primary mathematics module design, influenced by critical mathematics. I partner with schools on CCSE implementation and use participatory action research methods to embed CCSE practices. My research interests include ‘critical mathematics education’ and its role in challenging environmental issues.
I am a lecturer in Mathematics Education at the IoE. I taught in inner London schools for 16 years. My research interests include ‘critical mathematics education’ and focus on how maths has a key role in challenging environmental issues. I develop the secondary mathematics modules for the TSF programme.
I create the primary English modules as part of the TSF programme. I am a lecturer in primary education at UCL IOE, and I am working on a PhD at Goldsmiths University. I co-lead the MA Specialism Module on the PGCE and teach the Children's Literature specialism course.
I design and develop secondary English and Drama modules for the ‘Teaching for Sustainable Futures’ programme. I also work on the strategic dissemination of the modules, including through school partnerships. I have taught English for ten years and specialise in climate- and nature-based CPD for trainee teachers and school departments.
I am the primary music convenor for the TSF programme. I am also the Foundation Subjects Lead and music specialist on the Primary PGCE at UCL. Prior to this, I was a primary teacher and music specialist during which I designed music curricula and professional development opportunities for primary teachers.
I lead on the Primary Science Specialism and Learning and Teaching modules and lecture on the secondary science programme. I have taught in primary and secondary schools for over 38 years and was a senior leader for 27 years. My role in the CCCSE is to create primary science modules.
I have taught, written and presentedon climate change and sustainability within music education, and am currently developing CCCSE professional development modules for secondary music teachers. I chaired the PGCE Secondary Sustainability Development Group in 2023-24 and have published analysis of CCCSE research data relating to music education.
As an Associate Fellow I support and encourage schoolteachers in their sustainability practice and lead the development of the TSF modules in Citizenship education. I am the lead editor for the Teaching Citizenship Journal. I have Chaired the Secondary ITE Sustainability Development Group, and I am an active member.
I Chair the Centre’s Steering Group. My background is in ecology (with a PhD and post-doc in behavioural ecology and population genetics). I am passionate about the natural environment and write about socio-scientific issues in science, including ones to do with climate change, biodiversity and sustainability.
I currently serve as Executive Director of the UCL Centre for Holocaust Education. I have led the strategic development of our award-winning Centre since its inception in 2008. I am also a senior member of the programme team currently embarking on a major 3-year study: ‘A portrait of the teaching of Empire, Migration and Belonging in English secondary schools’. I have had extensive experience of leading other complex and large-scale educational programmes.
I am a Lecturer in Mental Health at King’s and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Art Therapy. I completed my postdoctoral fellowship at IOE for the AHRC-funded study ‘Eco-capabilites’, which led to the publication of the book ‘Arts in nature for children and young people: A guide towards health equity, wellbeing, and sustainability’.
I’m working with CCCSE to explore the role of leadership in enabling education for sustainability. We have explored the constraints experienced by school leaders, and the changes needed to empower them; I’m interested in building networks that will enable this to happen.
Involved in CLASS project, Egypt, exploring Climate Change and Sustainability Education in under-privileged Egyptian primary schools for girls (British Academy funding). Specialisms include listening to school-children’s voices and how people learn.
As an Associate Fellow of CCCSE, I have contributed as a co-investigator on CCCSE’s national survey of children and young people, and through pursuing research with teachers and leaders to enhance climate change and sustainability education in schools
I am currently an Honorary Lecturer at the School of Education, University of Exeter and an Associate of the Global Systems Institute. My research and writing interests are in aesthoecology, eco-philosophy, transdisciplinarity and intergenerational education centered around the crises arising from climate change and environmental degradation.

I am interested in developing teacher CPD programmes for Early Childhood Education to promote Sustainability Education in early years.
I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and am on the Editorial Board of the international journal Education Sciences. I am currently managing a number of primary and secondary STEM evaluations nationally as well as working internationally on issues in and around science education and equity in education.
I am a lecturer in Science Education at IOE. I lead the MA Education (science) programme and am also the Academic Head of Learning and Teaching for the department CPA (Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment). My research interests include children's relationship with the living world, place-based education, systems thinking and bioethics.
With over two decades of experience in primary teaching and teacher education across Japan, The Gambia, and Australia, I lecture on the Primary PGCE programme at IOE, specialising in primary science. I advise the Australian Academy of Science Education and consult on professional development integrating climate change education and sustainability. My research examines the nexus between science and climate change education, and my publications include a book on integrating the SDGs into primary science curricula.
I am Head of the Education Division, University of Stirling and a core member of the Scottish Council of Deans of Education, where I lead the Learning for Sustainability portfolio. I have written extensively in the field of Climate Change and Sustainability Education, including this forthcoming book published by Bloomsbury.
Sarah is Principal Official (Education) at NASUWT – The Teachers’ Union. She covers a wide range of policy areas related to teachers' professional practice, including climate education. She is part of the CCCSE advisory board to reflect the perspective and experiences of classroom teachers and school leaders as the centre develops.
Jess is Head of the National Education Nature Park at the Natural History Museum. Jess founded the UK Schools Sustainability Network (UKSSN) in 2020 as Head of Youth Networks at Global Action Plan, led a delegation of students to the COP26 summit and instigated the annual online Youth Climate Summit.
I am a Lecturer in sustainability at the UCL Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources, and run the MSc Sustainable Resources: Economics, Policy & Environment. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, and between 2014-2020 I taught in diverse contexts in the UK and abroad.
